The Federal Railroad Administration sponsored a team at the University of Maryland at College Park’s Center for Technology and Systems Management (CTSM) to develop methods and illustratively assess the weighted connectedness efficiency of U. S. freight railroad networks based on commodity volumes and examine node and link criticality for the entire network’s performance based on waybill data to inform planning decisions. Research was conducted from 2019 to 2022 at the CTSM.
