Monday, October 03, 2005 (Washington, DC) U.S. Secretary of Transportation Norman Y. Mineta today announced the appointment of Clifford C. Eby as the new Deputy Administrator for the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA). As Deputy Administrator he will help provide effective oversight of day to day administrative operations and be responsible for the agency's rail financial assistance programs.

“Cliff Eby's extensive senior management experience will strengthen the agency's leadership team and help advance our aggressive rail safety agenda,” Mineta said.

Mr. Eby most recently served as a Senior Vice-President for Parsons Corporation, a California based engineering and construction firm involved in a variety of transportation projects, including freight and passenger rail. During his years at the company he held several executive management positions covering areas such as finance, business development, operations, strategic planning, and technology.

He previously served as the Director of Finance and Statistics for the Association of American Railroads where he analyzed railroad financial data and made economic presentations before the former Interstate Commerce Commission and other regulatory agencies. In addition, as a young civil engineer, he was involved in the Northeast Corridor Improvement Project that made significant upgrades to track, equipment and other rail infrastructure between Washington, D.C., and Boston following the creation of Amtrak.

Mr. Eby lives in Maryland with his wife Eugenia. They have three children.
