FRA provides federal grants for intercity passenger and freight rail projects, as well as conducts research for new and innovative rail technologies.  As part of FRA’s project oversight, FRA provides training and technical assistance to grantees and stakeholders to assist in ensuring projects are delivered successfully, provide public benefits, and meet federal requirements. FRA’s stewardship of taxpayers’ dollars requires oversight of planning, acquisition, design, construction, and readiness for operations of passenger and freight rail projects.
