Statement of Transportation Secretary Norman Y. Mineta on Today’s Appointment of New Federal Railroad Administration Acting Administrator
Monday, January 03, 2005 () U.S. Transportation Secretary Norman Y. Mineta applauded President Bush’s appointment today of Robert D. Jamison as Acting Administrator of the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA). Jamison, currently Deputy Administrator of the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), will serve as FRA’s Acting Administrator while the White House works to select a permanent candidate to nominate for the position.
“Robert has proven himself time and again by helping lead our efforts to rebuild the parts of New York’s transit systems destroyed on September 11th and finding new and more effective ways to invest in transit systems around the country,” Secretary Mineta said. “During a time when the nation’s railroads are seeing record traffic levels, he is the right person to guide this agency as it works to build on an already impressive safety record.”
In his temporary capacity as FRA’s Acting Administrator, Jamison will focus on continuing the Department’s commitment to transportation safety and will help advance the Bush Administration’s effort to reform Amtrak, the Secretary said.
