Research Support
Successful simulator research requires expertise in multiple areas. In addition to knowledge in the topic area being studied (e.g., distraction), the research team must have knowledge of the rail domain, experimental design, as well as how to program and run the simulator.
Due to the level of support involved, FRA funds the efforts of the CTIL staff based at the Volpe Center who collaborate with researchers and assist in areas where needed. The level of support provided is at FRA's discretion but all visiting researchers do receive assistance with CTIL operations. The CTIL staff can assist with
- Programming the simulator
- Setting up scenarios
- Collecting data
- Providing technical support
