Background
On October 14, 2022, the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) petitioned the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) for a waiver of compliance from a provision of the Federal railroad safety regulations contained at 49 CFR § 236.1005(c), Hazard detectors.
Office of Research, Data and Innovation
The FRA Office of Research Data & Innovation Manages and coordinates: safety research and development; industry, market, and data-intelligence; economic analyses, including benefit-cost analyses in support of regulations and grants; technical capacity-building and workforce programs for the railroad industry; and FRA’s international programs.
Office of Business Operations
The Office of Business Operations plans, administers, and executes activities related to internal communications, project management, program analysis, financial management, contract administration, and workforce professional development.
Specific responsibilities include:
Office of Facilities and Asset Management
The Office of Facilities and Asset Management plans, develops, and administers a program of management and administrative services and activities to ensure operational effectiveness, efficiency, and compliance with public laws and Federal regulations. For each of these services, develops and administers Agency-wide policies and provides support, assistance, and technical expertise to FRA headquarters and field organizations.
