WASHINGTON - The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) today announced that it is holding three stakeholder educational seminars to discuss two FRA regulations.  Specifically, the day long sessions will focus on June 2017 amendments to 49 CFR Part 219 - Control of Alcohol and Drug Use, and the implementation requirements of 49 CFR Part 243 - Training, Qualification and Oversight for Safety-Related Railroad Employees.  Both regulations were issued in response to statutory requirements set forth in the Rail Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (RSIA).

WASHINGTON – U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Chao today announced that Mathew M. Sturges has been appointed Deputy Administrator of the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA).

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Transportation’s (US DOT’s) Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) today released a status update on its efforts to assist railroads in implementing positive train control systems (PTC), along with the railroads’ self-reported progress for the fourth quarter of 2017.

At the direction of Secretary Elaine L. Chao, the FRA is taking a proactive approach to ensure railroads acquire, install, test and fully implement certified PTC systems in time to meet the congressional interim deadline of December 31, 2018.

Ronald L. Batory was sworn in this morning by U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Chao as the 14th Administrator of the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA). A railroad industry professional with more than 45 years of experience, Mr. Batory is widely respected, having worked successfully for small and large rail carriers across the U.S. Prior to his nomination to serve as Administrator, Batory was President & Chief Operating Officer of Conrail, the eighth largest freight railroad in America from 2004 until his retirement in April 2017.

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) today announced that it is accepting applications for $73 million in grant funding for projects that can strengthen intercity passenger rail, support capital projects and boost safety initiatives that may include the implementation of positive train control, improved highway-rail grade crossings, and congestion mitigation.

In accordance with the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act (Public Law 114-94), the U.S. Department of Transportation today announced the final updated Regulatory Impact Analysis (RIA) in regard to Electronically Controlled Pneumatic (ECP) brakes on certain trains. After careful review in accordance with the Congressional mandate contained in the FAST Act, the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) will rescind the ECP mandate.

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) today released a Tier I combined Final Environmental Impact Statement and Record of Decision (FEIS/ROD) for the High-Speed Ground Transportation (HSGT) project that will ultimately connect Atlanta to Chattanooga, Tennessee.
